Al-Sharq: State of Qatar is Ready for New Legislative Stage

Doha, October 29 (QNA) - Al-Sharq newspaper affirmed in its Thursday editorial that the launching of the 49th Ordinary Session of the Shura Council next Tuesday, in response to the Decree issued Wednesday by HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, inviting the Shura Council to convene it, is preparing Qatar to practice democracy with its unique experience through the choice of Shura. The paper said that the State of Qatar is considered one of the leading Arab countries in establishing its legislative authority on the basis of the Shura system derived from Islamic Sharia. Based on the fact that the legislative authority in any contemporary political system is one of the three pillars upon which the system of government is based, the Shura Council represents one of the two main pillars of authority, as laws are only issued after being presented to the Council, where the Council thoroughly studies them, as well as express opinions and recommendations regarding them, the paper added. Al-Sharq explained that starting from Tuesday, the Council will begin practicing its power to keep pace with the renaissance that the State of Qatar is witnessing in all fields, by passing the legislations required in the next stage, in which the country is looking forward to a new year as it prepares for the largest international sporting event, the Qatar World Cup, while it is constantly and dynamically facing various challenges, such as the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, and the events and developments that followed its occurrence. The paper concluded its editorial by expressing its certainty that the Council, in its new session, will prioritize discussing issues that concern citizens, especially in the health fields, in light of the continuing global confrontation of the outbreak of COVID-19, and the decisions and procedures required by the relevant authorities, in order to contain the spread of the pandemic, as well as the developments it entails in the fields of education, economy, industry, municipal affairs, environment and infrastructure.
