Al-Sharq: World Cup Is More Than Just Sport Event

Doha, March 22 (QNA) - In its editorial on Tuesday, Al-Sharq newspaper highlighted HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani welcoming all the volunteers of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, stressing their main role in the upcoming hosting of the World Cup. "I welcome all the volunteers of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, and I wish them and those who will participate in the first tournament of its kind in our region a unique experience through which they discover the richness and tolerance of our Arab culture, and the keenness to build bridges of communication with different cultures and peoples.. This is one of our main goals of hosting the championship," the newspaper quoted HH the Amir as saying. Al-Sharq said that with the approaching of Doha hosting the World Cup for the first time in the Arab region, all concerned parties are preparing. This is not limited to the Ministry of Sports and Youth (MSY) and the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy (SC), as all state's authorities will make their contribution to the success of the hosting, which takes cultural and social dimensions that make it greater than just a sporting event, the newspaper added. It also noted that it is an extended occasion and a sustainable legacy in which the world learns closely about our Arab and Islamic region and our customs and traditions, and through which the cultural gap between societies is bridged. The newspaper added that there is something among people that deserves attention, dissemination and highlighting to promote the values of tolerance, build civilizational bridges, renounce violence and spread a culture of moderation, explaining that this will only be through these extended activities, and there is no doubt that this is what the participants in the event will do. In conclusion, Al-Sharq expressed confidence that Doha, with its leading position in the Arab and international world, will provide a unique experience for the World Cup, reflecting the noble values of Arab civilization and the high morals that have elevated this nation as it realizes the dream of hosting the first World Cup in the region.
