Al-Watan: Failure of International Community to Resolve Palestinian Issue will Destroy Foundations of International Law

Doha, July 16 (QNA) - Al-Watan newspaper, issued today, affirmed that the international community's failure to resolve the Palestinian issue not only destroys prospects for justice and peace, but also destroys the foundations of international law. The newspaper said in its editorial that the international community has failed to assume its responsibilities and ensure that the Israeli occupation complies with international humanitarian law and is held accountable for its ongoing crimes against the Palestinian people. In this regard, Al-Watan indicated that settlers yesterday stormed the courtyards of Al-Aqsa Mosque in occupied Jerusalem, under the strict protection of the Israeli occupation police, and performed rituals in its courtyards, until they left from Bab Al-Silsila, in addition to what the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque witnesses of daily incursions and provocations by settlers, backed by heavy security by the Israeli occupation forces. Al-Watan stressed that these provocations do not stop there but have always been accompanied by continuous campaigns of arrest, repression, abuse and shooting of unarmed civilians, all of which are taking place in front of the international community, which confirms its failure to assume its responsibilities and ensure that the Israeli occupation complies with international humanitarian law. The newspaper stressed that what the residents of occupied East Jerusalem are subjected to in particular from mass forced displacement, and demolition of homes, must be faced with effective political, legal and diplomatic action, which would ensure accountability and create pressures to stop these violations and ongoing Israeli crimes against the Palestinian people. Al-Watan said that the current situation provides an opportunity for the international community to strengthen its diplomatic efforts in order to confront the illegal Israeli colonial occupation by all legitimate political, diplomatic and legal means, activating the accountability process for the crimes of Israel, by supporting the investigation of the International Criminal Court, and taking effective steps towards achieving a just and sustainable political solution. Al-Watan newspaper concluded its editorial by saying: "In any case, failure to achieve this will send a very dangerous message to spread chaos and instability in the entire world." (QNA)
