Al-Watan Highlights HE Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs' Visit to US

Doha, July 25 (QNA) - In its editorial Sunday, Al-Watan newspaper highlighted HE Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani's visit to the United States and his meeting with senior American and international officials there. The paper said that the visit affirms the distinguished strategic relations that exist between the two countries, which are the result of years of joint cooperation based on mutual interests and respect. The newspaper said that the visit also confirmed Qatar's important role in creating an atmosphere of security in the region and the world, noting that the legislators and politicians whom HE the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs met during his visit praised this role, which reflects the deep confidence in Qatar's policies and mediations. The paper referred in this regard to the US National Security Advisor who praised during his meeting with HE Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani the State of Qatar's role in the region and its effective mediation to find sustainable solutions to conflicts and disputes. Moreover, the paper referred to HE the Executive Director of the United Nations World Food Programme David Beasley who thanked the State of Qatar for allocating $100 million in support of the efforts of the World Food Programme in Yemen to ensure food security and avert famine in Yemen, as well as assist the urgent United Nations relief and humanitarian programs to mitigate the exacerbation of the human tragedy there. HE United States Special Envoy for Yemen Timothy Lenderking also thanked the State of Qatar for allocating $100 million to support the efforts of the UN's World Food Programme efforts in Yemen to support food security, stop famine in Yemen, and support the UN's urgent food and humanitarian programmes to prevent further deterioration of tragic conditions there, the paper added. In conclusion, Al-Watan said that reginal issues were not absent during HE the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs' meetings in Washington, pointing out that talks during HE's meeting with American counterpart dealt with the developments of the situation in the region, especially in Afghanistan, Iran, Syria and Palestine.
