Al-Watan: Qatar, Malaysia Towards an Escalating Strategic Relations

Doha, March 30 (QNA) - In its Wednesday editorial, Al-Watan newspaper highlighted the official talks session held by HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani and HE Prime Minister of Malaysia Ismail Sabri Yaakob Tuesday morning at the Amiri Diwan, where they discussed aspects of developing joint cooperation, especially in the fields of economy and investment, in addition to exchanging views on the most prominent regional and international issues.
The relations between the State of Qatar and Malaysia span about five decades, the paper stressed. The establishment of the joint higher committee between the two countries and a set of agreements and memoranda of understanding (MoU), which regulate relations between them in many areas, such as avoiding double taxation and preventing financial evasion, and economic, technical, cultural and media cooperation, in addition to an MoU on cooperation in the field of training diplomats, cooperation in the field of higher education, legal cooperation activities, and judicial cooperation reinforced these relations, the paper said.
Al-Watan said that the two countries stand on one line, confirmed by the similarity of views on various regional and international issues, and the common determination to enhance their cooperation in international forums and contribute with the international community to efforts to maintain international peace and security, combat terrorism, protect human rights, and resolve conflicts through dialogue and peaceful means, in accordance with the provisions of international law and the rules of international legitimacy.
The newspaper pointed out that the relations between Doha and Kuala Lumpur witnessed many mutual visits and talks at the highest levels between the leaders of the two countries, ministers, government officials, and private sector officials, which opened the doors to developing relations, adding that the talks of His Highness and HE Prime Minister of Malaysia on Tuesday give a strong impetus to bilateral relations in the interest of the two countries and peoples at all levels.
Al-Watan concluded its editorial by saying that the relations between the two countries have witnessed a lot of development and growth, and have deepened based on many commonalities in belief and visions of unity and solidarity between Islamic countries. (QNA)
