All parties in Thailand urged to avoid sensitive issues
BANGKOK, September 20 (TNA) - Defence Minister Sukampol Suwanathat has called on all parties in Thailand to avoid sensitive issues, including an ongoing protest of Muslims against a US-made film alleged to have insulted the Islamic Mohammed Prophet.
In response to recent peaceful rallies by Thai Muslims at the US Embassy in Bangkok and the US Consulate General in Chiang Mai province in the Thai North to show their protest against the US-made film, "The Innocence of Muslims", Air Chief Marshal Sukampol told reporter on Thursday that he was glad the protests in Thailand did not turn violence.
The Thai defence minister cautioned that religious issues are sensitive and all parties in the country should avoid talking about.
Hundreds of Muslim people in Thailand demonstrated peacefully in front of the US Embassy in Bangkok and the US Consulate General in Chiang Mai earlier this week to show their protest against the US film, which has also sparked similar reaction by Muslims in other countries worldwide. (TNA)
