Allied countries urge all parties in Thailand to respect the rule of law

BANGKOK, November 29 (TNA) - As anti-government rallies have persisted, foreign countries have called on every concerned party in Thailand to respect the rule of law, adhere to the democratic principle and avoid violence. The allied countries have also expressed their support for every concerned party in Thailand to come to a negotiating table in order to find ways to resolve problems for the sake of national political and economic stability with reconciliation among Thai people. Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Surapong Tovichakchaikul, meanwhile told journalists that three more countries have issued statements expressing their concerns over the ongoing political demonstrations in Thailand, including Canada, France and Japan. Surapong acknowledged that a total of eight countries and one international organisation have, therefore, expressed their worries over Thailand's political rallies. Touching on a demand by anti-government protesters for the establishment of a "people’s council", the Thai deputy premier said he believed the idea would be unacceptable by the international community. According to the deputy prime minister, he has invited foreign ambassadors to Thailand to attend a fresh briefing on the current domestic political situation and what the Thai government plans to do to resolve the political strife, set on Friday afternoon.
