ALO director-general hails Bahrain’s labour legislations

Manama, Oct.16 (BNA): Arab Labour Organisation (ALO) director-general Fayez Al-Mateeri hailed Bahrain’s legislations and laws aimed to promote women’s economic and social empowerment and implement the principles of gender professional parity.
“These legislations and laws reflect the spirit of modernization and development on track to eliminate all forms of gender discrimination in the labour market”, he said in a letter addressed to the Minister of Labour and Social Development Jameel bin Mohammed Ali Humaidan.
The ALO recognition following Bahrain’s recent promulgations of labour laws aimed to support women’s employment and gender equal opportunities in the private sector.
The minister recently issued edicts 50 and 51 of 2020 setting the sectors for women’s work at night and stipulating measures for employing pregnant women and protecting motherhood as per the law on the private sector.
As for edict (52) of 2020, it prohibits wage discrimination between male and female workers holding the same position whenever their working conditions are similar in accordance with the provisions of the Constitution of the Kingdom of Bahrain and the labour law in the private sector.
Al-Mateeri said that advanced legislations comply with Arab and international labour standards and human rights principles, indicating that these laws and regulations came to express the high humanitarian drive that characterises the Kingdom of Bahrain and the approach to promote a suitable work environment and the values of equality
The ALO director-general wished the Kingdom of Bahrain more progress and prosperity under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa .
