Anifah Aman Leads Delegation To ICFM Session In Uzbekistan

PUTRAJAYA (Malaysia), Oct 17 (Bernama) -- Foreign Minister Anifah Aman will lead the Malaysian delegation to the two-day, 43rd Session of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation's Council of Foreign Ministers (ICFM) in Uzbekistan, beginning Tuesday. The ICFM is an annual meeting of the OIC Foreign Ministers to review progress of the implementation of the decisions and resolutions adopted at the previous Summits and Councils of Foreign Ministers. The foreign ministry said in a statement Monday that the meeting, which would be held in the republic's capital city Tashkent would discuss political, economic and socio-cultural issues that affected the Muslim ummah. It said Anifah would also deliver a country statement at the ICFM, which would also focus its dicussion on the theme, 'Education and Enlightenment - Path to Peace and Creativity'. "The meeting will also consider and approve the programme, budget and other financial and administrative reports of the OIC General Secretariat and the OIC Subsidiary Organs," it added. In addition, Anifah is expected to hold bilateral meetings with his counterparts to discuss issues of mutual concern and interest. Malaysia’s participation at the meeting is an affirmation of its continuous commitment and support for the OIC’s efforts in strengthening the bonds of unity and solidarity among OIC member states. -- BERNAMA
