Anwar Passes Parliamentary Test of Legitimacy as 10th Malaysian PM

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 19 (Bernama) -- Anwar Ibrahim (right in the picture) on Monday confirmed his legitimacy as the 10th Malaysian Prime Minister when the motion on a vote of confidence for him was approved by majority voice at the opening sitting of the 15th Parliament here.
The legitimacy of the Tambun Member of Parliament as Prime Minister was confirmed by Malaysian Parliament (Dewan Rakyat) Speaker Johari Abdul when he announced the result of the voice vote, which was taken after 13 government and opposition members had debated the motion.
The motion was tabled by Deputy Prime Minister Fadillah Yusof and seconded by another Deputy Prime Minister, Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
In a post on Facebook earlier, Anwar said he would assume the responsibilities of an elected representative by placing the interests and rights of the people as main priorities.
According to the prime minister, he will bear the responsibility by putting the interests and rights of the people as the pillars.
“We (elected representatives) will work hard by upholding the role of the institution of parliament and by defending the Constitution,” he said.
Anwar led 222 members of Dewan Rakyat in an oath-taking ceremony at the first Meeting of the First Term of the 15th Parliament which started Monday.
