Manama, Nov. 8 (BNA): Electricity and Water Affairs Minister patronised the opening of the 12th Arab Cable Manufacturers Association Conference at the Four Seasons Hotel this morning. Chairman of the conference organizing committee and Head of Global Cable Manufacturers Association Hamid Rashid Al Zayani was among the dignitaries present at the event along with around 100 participants from around the region and around the globe. In his keynote speech, the minister welcomed those attending and congratulated Mr. Al Zayani on his election as president of the global association. He said the selection of Bahrain as the conference venue for the second time is evidence of the leading role it plays to attract the scientific, economic and cultural activities. He said the conference is rightly considered a model for fruitful cooperation between the cable and wire manufacturers in Arab countries and aims to attract Arab experiences to develop the cable industry and electrical equipment. It would also review the latest developments in the electrical cable industry. The Arab Cable Manufacturers Association is one of the largest industrial groups in the Middle East. It has held 11 conferences since its inception in 2004 in all parts of the Middle East and Europe. Members consist of companies engaged in manufacturing and trading of electrical and telephone cables, in addition to machinery and equipment used in the cable industry. It has a direct link with the Arab Federation for Engineering Industries and the Arab Economic Development Council of the Arab League. The association now has 75 member companies with a total combined turnover of more than one billion dollars. The association seeks to unite Arab cable manufacturers to discuss important issues pertaining to the industry, in addition to supporting them in case they face problems. It also helps communicate with governments on Arab and international issues pertaining to the cable industry to support the industry.
