Arab Conference for Investment in Food Security' kicks-off in Fujairah this November
FUJAIRAH, 7th November, 2018 (WAM) -- The sixth Arab Conference for Investment in Food Security will be held in the emirate on 14th and 15th November, 2018.
Held under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Fujairah, the six edition is themed, 'Smart Agriculture is a Promising Option for the Arab World'.
The conference is being organised by the Arab Chamber Union, the Ministry of Climate Change and the Environment, the Federation of UAE Chambers of Commerce and Industry, and the Fujairah Chamber of Commerce and Industry, in cooperation with the Arab League General Secretariat, the Food and Agriculture Organisation, FAO, the Arab Investment and Agricultural Development Authority, the Arab Organisation for Agricultural Development, and the Arab Union of Food Industries, with the participation of Arab chambers and federations, leading Arab and international companies in the food security sector, and relevant Arab and international funding authorities.
Khalid Mohammed Al Jassem, Director-General of the Fujairah Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said that the conference aims to highlight the importance of investing in smart agriculture, which emphasises the optimal use of agriculture on the smallest area of land and the consumption of the least amount of water to obtain the best crop production.
He added that the conference will review the national strategies of Arab countries in this area, explore new opportunities, and encourage the private sector in the Arab region to invest in food security, under the framework of implementing the Sustainable Development Goals 2030, by utilising science, technology, leadership and innovation on national and joint Arab levels.
Many senior officials from Gulf Cooperation Council, GCC, countries and Arab countries will participate in the conference, along with representatives of ministries, Arab and GCC chambers of commerce and industry, as well as Arab, regional and international organisations in the food security sector, Al Jassem concluded.
