Arab Information Ministers Council adopts Bahraini proposal

Manama, July 17 (BNA): Information Affairs Undersecretary Dr. Abdulrahman Mohammed Bahar highlighted keenness of the Kingdom of Bahrain, under the leadership of HM King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, to promote the joint Arab media action in accordance with a unified strategy to disseminate the culture of peace and tolerance and rejecting extremism and hatred to achieve inspirations for security, stability, prosperity and sustainable development. Dr. Bahar stated that as he represented Bahrain in the 50th session of the Arab Information Ministers Council on behalf of Information Affairs Minister Ali bin Mohammed Al Romaihi. Arab ministers or their representatives and representatives from Arab media organisations were also present. Dr. Bahar said the Arab Information Ministers Council has adopted Bahrain’s proposal and visions on introducing a media education subject into the Arab curricula, which aimed at educating the youth and youngsters about the ethics of expression, critical thinking skills and the sensible use of the Internet and social media. He added that the meeting focused on eighteen items, on top of them was the Palestinian issue and the supporting media projects to the same, as it is the Arab’s central issue. Other items were discussing the updated version of the Arab Media Code of Honor, promoting the Arab media role in addressing the phenomenon of terrorism, supporting the sustainable development, following up the Arab media movement plan abroad, as well as topics related to joint coordination in fields of electronic media, development of radio broadcasting, rights of TV broadcasting of sports events, in addition to activities of Arab media organizations and associations. The Arab Information Ministers Council selected Dubai as the 2020 Capital of Arab Media for the key role of the United Arab Emirates in the media field. Dr. Bahar stressed keenness of the Information Affairs Ministry, in line with the directives of the Information Affairs Minister, to activate the joint Arab media action in conformity with the Arab media charters and strategies that aimed at serving the supreme interests of the Arab nation, protecting Arab civilizational and cultural identity, strengthening Arab unity and security, combating extremism, terrorism, countering interferences in the internal affairs of Arab countries and addressing rumors, lies and incitement and hatred discourses.
