Arab water cooperation to be discussed

Manama, Oct. 25 (BNA): Electricity and Water Affairs Minister Dr. Abdulhussain bin Ali Mirza is to take part in a meeting of the Arab Ministerial Council for Water, to be held at the Arab League headquarters in Cairo, Egypt. Dr. Mirza, currently the council chairman, will hand over the presidency to Tunisia this year. During the meeting, attending ministers will speak on the topic, Arab Water Under Occupation and on issues relevant to GCC and regional countries. In a statement, Dr. Mirza stressed the importance of the meeting and its agenda to discuss Arab water affairs, especially in the light of the current situation relating to the security and sustainability of water. He said among the topics to be discussed are the Arab water security strategy and Arab states supporting each other for the modernisation of the water sector as well as achieving sustainability through cooperation, supporting joint initiatives and strengthening the capacity of each country to achieve a rational, integrated and effective water resources management in the region. The minister is accompanied by Electricity and Water Authority executive vice president of planning and projects Ibrahim Abdullah Al Kaabi and the Minister’s Office Director Ahmed Bucheery.
