Arson attacks damage CCTV cameras in Thai far South

YALA, THAILAND, May 11 (TNA) - Four closed-circuit television cameras (CCTVs) were set on fire in four arson attacks in Yala province in the violence-plagued Thai far South early Saturday morning. The first attack took place in the Ba Ngoi locality of Yala's Raman District at around 3:10am. At about the same time, two more attacks on CCTVs were reported in Raman's Koto Tuera sub-district and the other one in Asong sub-district. Security authorities and defence volunteers, as well as bomb disposal and scientific crime detection units were sent out to inspect the scenes and collect evidence. The authorities said they initially believed that local insurgents were behind the attacks. In nearby Narathiwat province, a suspected insurgent was killed in a clash with local soldiers in Rueso district, after the soldiers raided a house, suspected to be a hideout of seven armed suspected insurgents, at about 3:30am. The soldiers reported that the armed men at the house opened fire on them first and the two sides exchanged gunfire for about 10 minutes, after which the body of one suspected insurgent was found, while the rest fled the scene.
