Asghar Farhadi to promote “The Past” at Munich festival

TEHRAN,June 26(MNA) -- The Iranian director Asghar Farhadi will be attending the 31st Munich International Film Festival to promote his latest film “The Past”. Farhadi, who is now in France, will be in the German city for a screening of his film in the CineMasters section of the festival on July 5. Another screening is also scheduled for July 6. “The Past” is about an Iranian man named Ahmad who returns to Paris from Tehran after a four-year separation, upon his French wife Marie’s request, in order to finalize their divorce procedure. During his brief stay, Ahmad discovers the conflicting nature of Marie’s relationship with her daughter Lucie. Ahmad’s efforts to improve this relationship soon unveil a secret from their past. The film premiered at the Cannes Film Festival this year in May and brought its French star Bérénice Bejo the Palme d’Or for best actress. Tahar Rahim, Ali Mosaffa, Pauline Burlet and Elyes Aguis also star in the film. Farhadi was honored with the Grand Medal of Vermeil from the City of Paris for the film in early June. His previous film “A Separation” won an Oscar, Golden Globe and French César for best foreign film earlier in 2012 as well as Berlin’s Golden Bear in 2011. Several filmmakers and actors will be in Munich to present their latest pictures in person and will be on hand after the screenings to talk with filmgoers.
