Assistant Foreign Minister receives UN official

Manama, Apr. 28 (BNA): Assistant Foreign Minister, Abdullah bin Faisal bin Jabur Al Doseri, received in his office at the Ministry's General Court today, Senior Political Affairs Officer of the Gulf Team, Middle East Division, Department of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs and Peace Operations at the United Nations Secretariat, Victor Poliakov, who is on an official visit to the Kingdom. The meeting was also attended by the United Nations Resident Coordinator and Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Programme to Kingdom of Bahrain, Mr. Amin Al Sharqawi, and UN Coordination and Research Analyst, Dr. Aijan Sharshenova. The Assistant Foreign Minister welcomed Mr. Poliakov and commended the relentless efforts of the UN in preserving international peace and security and its significant role in peace-building and addressing crisis. He also reviewed the Kingdom’s progress and development in the field of human rights, especially in its achievements and initiatives related to civil and political rights, protection of expats, the advancement of the rights of children and persons with disabilities, and spreading the values of tolerance and coexistence, as well as advancement of Bahraini women. The Assistant Foreign Minister expressed his pride in the strategic cooperation between the Kingdom of Bahrain and the United Nations, affirming the Kingdom’s constant keenness to expand relations with the United Nations and its agencies. Mr. Poliakov expressed his pleasure to have met with the Assistant Foreign Minister, and lauded the Kingdom’s efforts in maintaining regional security and peace, wishing the Kingdom of Bahrain further progress and prosperity, A number of issues of mutual interest were also discussed during the meeting.
