Attorney General Highlights Qatar's Role in Strengthening Rule of Law and Fight against Corruption

Doha, February 12 (QNA) - HE Attorney General Dr. Ali bin Fetais Al Merri has underlined that the State of Qatar plays a responsible role at regional and international levels in the field of rule of law and fight against corruption, especially after the opening of the rule of law and combat corruption in Doha last December in partnership with the United Nations." HE the Attorney General told reporters after his meeting with Jordan Ryan, Assistant Secretary General of the United Nations and Assistant Administrator of the United Nations Development Programme and Director of the Bureau for Crisis Prevention program, who is currently visiting Doha. He pointed out that the State of Qatar and the United Nations have an important partnership in the field of corruption fighting and strengthening the rule of law at the international level, especially in countries that need support in these areas. He said the new Centre will play an important role in conducting regional training courses in support of staff in all matters relating to the fight against corruption and the rule of law in the countries of the region in cooperation with the UN Development Program. HE the Attorney General and UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon opened on 11 December last year the Center for the rule of law and the fight against corruption" in Doha, in partnership with the United Nations. The Doha-based, Centre is an independent organization working in partnership with the United Nations aims to build specialized knowledge and institutional skills that will lead to strengthening the rule of law and combat against corruption in line with international standards and national needs.(QNA)
