Ayutthaya tourism boosted by TV series
AYUTTHAYA, March 29 (TNA) –Tourism in the ancient city Ayutthaya is booming with more than 300,000 people visiting ancient temples in Ayutthaya in march alone thanks to huge popularity of TV series, said the Tourism Authority of Thailand office in the ancient city of Ayutthaya.
The trend of wearing Thai costume to visit ancient temples becomes popular, following the megahit of TV series “Love Destiny” Buppaesannivas in Thai.
Issarapong Thaensiri,อิสสระพงษ์ แทนศิริ the TAT director of the Ayutthaya office said the huge popularity of the TV series has been clearly seen with the large number of visitors at the historical sites, which appear in this TV series such as Wat Chaiwattanaram, the Phom Phet or the Dimond Fort, the ancient palace.
In March alone, the number of visitors has skyrocketed to 300,000 people. The TAT office projects that each visitor spends about 500 baht or about 150 milllion baht in total.
Ayutthaya, a former capital city, recorded increasing visitors in the past two year with seven million people in 2016 and eight million people in 2017, he said.
Love Destiny is the story of an archaeologist, travelling to the past during the reign of King Narai the Great, in Ayutthaya period by a miracle to meet her soulmate.
