BAAC continues paying farmers under rice-pledging scheme

BANGKOK, June 1 (TNA) - The state-run Bank for Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives (BAAC) has continued paying money to farmers who had sold rice to the government under the rice-pledging programme in a bid to settle the debt before middle of July. Between May 26 – 31, BAAC had paid 34.722 billion baht to 345,647 farmers joining the programme. Previously, the government owed about 90 billion baht to some 830,000 farmers. BAAC officials are now able to work faster as they could transfer money to farmers’ accounts due to the assistance given by soldiers dispatched by the National Council for Peace and Order. (End)
