Baby boom in Kyzylorda region
Kyzylorda, August 05, 2009 (Khabar) - Kyzylorda region is experiencing a baby boom. Doctors can not explain why the number of twins and triplets has increased. The Ibragimov family is brining up triplets. During pregnancy doctors have been watching mother’s health. The government has allocated a quota for this family, since after birth of triplets the Ibragimov family has six children. Also, local entrepreneurs helped the family with many children to purchase a house in the Tasboget settlement. In the Kyzylorda region the reimbursement programme as part of which families with many children can receive flats, is currently underway. Five years ago in Kyzylorda region the reported number of new born children accounted for 3,000 but this year this number has almost doubled. The region is experiencing a lack of doctors.
Gulnar Zhumasheva, head physician of city maternity hospital:
- Doctors have to work many hours. We are in short of gynecologists, resuscitation specialists and pediatricians.
Physicians claim that the lack of specialists is the main reason for maternal and infant mortality. Although this year this level decreased a lot, the situation is still alarming. In order to attract specialists, the regional council suggested the adoption of a social package.
Leila Kultayeva, deputy head for issues of maternal and child health protection, Kyzylorda regional department for healthcare:
- The social package stipulates the allocation of one million tenge for young specialists, who are going to work in rural areas for three years.
Leila Kultayeva has also announced that training centres, which are aimed at the career enhancement, are to invite foreign specialists in order to adopt their experience. Regional officials are examining the issue about the construction of a new maternity hospital for 200 places. Also, as part of the “100 schools, 100 hospitals” programme it is planned to open a new perinatal center and maternity welfare centre.
