BACA launches 'Young Museologist' initiative

Manama, Aug. 4 (BNA): The Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities (BACA) today announced the launch of the “Young Museologist” event at the Bahrain National Museum, following the launch of the “Young Archaeologist” initiative in January this year. Both events aim to strengthen the national identity and introduce the youth to the history and civilisation of the Kingdom The Young Museologist initiative, held every Thursday from 9-11:30 am during August, targets children between the ages of 8-13 years old, and aims to introduce participants to museology and the role of museums in preserving the cultural heritage of nations. 20 children participated in the inaugural day of the programme, in which they learned about the tasks undertaken by the specialists at the museum from recording, restoring, exhibiting the collectibles, and tours, through practical application that simulates reality. Director of Antiquities and Museums at BACA, Dr. Salman Al-Mahari, indicated that the “Young Archeologist” initiative is implemented at heritage sites in winter, when the weather is suitable for holding outdoor activities, while the “Young Museologist programme is held in summer inside the Bahrain National Museum.
