BACA President receives UN-Habitat delegation

Manama, June 27 (BNA): President of the Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities (BACA), Shaikha Mai bint Mohammed Al Khalifa, received here today a delegation from the UN Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) Regional Office for Arab States, led by its Director, Dr. Erfan Ali.
They discussed ways to consolidate efforts to preserve historical towns in Bahrain.
Shaikha Mai stressed the importance of regional cooperation in order to preserve historical cities, given their role in maintaining countries’ memory, as well as their material and non-material cultural heritage.
She commended the efforts exerted by the UN-Habitat, noting that BACA constantly seeks to maintain contacts with international institutions in order to support its projects to protect and preserve Bahrain’s historical cities, particularly Manama which BACA seeks to inscribe on UNESCO World Heritage List.
UN-Habitat Regional Office for Arab States Director expressed thanks to BACA President for her constant interest in and efforts to maintain and preserve historical cities in Bahrain, noting that cooperation between BACA and the UN-Habitat will yield many projects.
