Bahrain’s human rights strides highlighted

Geneva, Feb. 18(BNA): "Bahrain spares no effort to promote the values of democracy and respect for human rights", said Assistant Foreign Minister and Head of the delegation of the Kingdom of Bahrain Abdullah bin Faisal bin Jabur Al-Doseri during his participation in 40th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) in Geneva, Bahrain, he said, also worked to promote fundamental freedoms, equality, rule of law, and advancement of women in various fields according to a modern methodology and a national strategy emanating from the reform approach to His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, the King of the country and from its cultural and civilizational values. This came as he met with the President of the Human Rights Council, Ambassador Koly Seck, where he stressed the keenness of the Kingdom of Bahrain to cooperate with the Human Rights Council and other UN mechanisms, looking forward to working together through the Kingdom's membership in the Human Rights Council for 2019-2021. Al Doseri also praised the distinguished relations between the Kingdom of Bahrain and the Republic of Senegal, stressing keenness to boost these relations and push them towards wider horizons to achieve the common interests of the two friendly countries. The Assistant Foreign Minister also met with the Vice-President of the Human Rights Council, the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Argentina, Ambassador Carlos M. Foradori and praised the distinguished bilateral relations between the two countries. He stressed the kingdom’s keenness to develop these relations and propel them to broader horizons for the benefit of both countries and their peoples. The Assistant Foreign Minister affirmed that the remarkable development and achievements achieved by the Kingdom of Bahrain in the field of human rights came as a result of the wise directives of HM the King and the efforts of the government. He noted with pleasure Bahrain's keenness desire for openness and constructive cooperation with the United Nations and its international agencies as well as protection of human rights at all national, regional and international levels. He hailed the speech by the President of the Human Rights Council at the opening of the fortieth session, in which he emphasized the central role of the Human Rights Council and its status as a center for dialogue and cooperation on all human, civil, political, economic, social and cultural issues of the member-states. The 40th Session of the Human Rights Council was opened in Geneva in the presence of the President of the 73rd session of the UN General Assembly Mrs. Maria Fernanda Espinosa, Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, the High Commissioner for Human Rights Ms. Michelle Bachelet, and a number of Heads of State and Government, United Nations. It is worth noting that the 40th session of the Human Rights Council will discuss several important human rights topics on its agenda including environment, adequate housing, children's rights, freedom of religion and the rights of persons with disabilities. It is also set to shed light on the human rights situation in some countries such as Myanmar, Iran, Palestine and the rest of the occupied Arab territories as well as other issues such as technical assistance programs, training and capacity-building.
