Bahrain’s successful child care experience highlighted

Manama, May 19 (BNA): Labour and Social Development Minister and Chairman of the National Child Committee, Jameel bin Mohammed Ali Humaidan, met the representative of the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) to the GCC States, Al Tayeb Adam, in the presence of the United Nations Resident Coordinator and Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) to Bahrain, Amin Al Sharqawi.
They discussed ways to enhance joint cooperation, and reviewed the results of the workshops co-organised last year by the National Child Committee and UNICEF.
They also reviewed cooperation between the Labour and Social Development Ministry and the National Child Committee to develop an implementation plan for the document of the UNICEF’s 2019–2023 GCC Area sub-regional programme, as well as to activate many other issues pertaining to protecting and developing childhood in the region.
The minister affirmed the kingdom’s keenness to take all procedures aimed at ensuring care, protection and development for children, citing the combined fourth to sixth periodic report of Bahrain on measures taken to implement the provisions of the Convention on the Rights of the Child, which was presented during the 80th session of the Committee on the Rights of the Child, held in Geneva in January.
He stressed that the kingdom’s measures and legislation aimed at ensuring that children enjoy their full rights were widely appreciated and lauded, affirming that the Labour and Social Development Ministry and the National Child Committee are ready to enhance their fruitful and constructive cooperation with UNICEF to ensure more protection for children.
Al Tayeb Adam valued highly Bahrain’s efforts and support for UNCEF’s programmes and activities, lauding the remarkable progress witnessed by Bahrain in the field of childhood protection, noting that UNICEF’s cooperation with the Labour and Social Development Ministry and the National Childhood Committee will be strengthened.
Al-Sharqawi lauded the achievements of the Labour and Social Development Ministry in the fields of employment and support for social initiatives that are consistent with the Sustainable Development Goals.
He highlighted the UN’s interest in transferring Bahrain’s successful experiences in social work to other countries
