Bahrain ambassador attends international event on laws affecting gender equality

Manama, June 13 (BNA): Bahrain Ambassador to Belgium and the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg and Representative to the European Union and NATO, Dr. Bahia Jawad Al-Jishi, attended an event entitled "Gender Law Justice” that evaluates the laws affecting gender equality in the Arab region. A number of United Nations agencies, representatives of accredited embassies and the EU Foreign Affairs Agency attended the activity, organized by the UN Office in Brussels. The speakers reviewed aspects of the national reports of 18 Arab countries including Bahrain, which have been prepared by the UN Women's Fund in partnership with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA). The reports published in December 2018 entitled "Gender Equity and Law - An Evaluation of Laws Affecting Gender Equality in the Arab Region", will be compiled in a comprehensive regional report during the last quarter of this year. The speakers also praised the positive steps taken by the Kingdom in the field of guaranteeing the rights of women, highly appraising the progress achieved in the field of women's education and participation in the labor market.
