Bahrain attends international transport conference

Ashgabat, Nov. 29 (BNA): Delegated by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, Transportation and Telecommunications Minister Kamal bin Ahmed Mohammed took part in the first Global Sustainable Transport Conference, held in Turkmenistan , at an invitation by its President Kurbanguly Berdymukhamedov. The minister pointed out that the conference on November 26 and 27 witnessed large scale participation by the UN member states and kicked off with a series of ministerial meetings during which a communique was reviewed on the need for countries to commit to international conventions on transport. The conference also spotlighted key issues including mainly the importance of getting rid of old means of transport and replacing them with new ones because of their failure to comply with globally-acknowledged hygienic and environmental conditions as well as safety rules. The conference also shed light on energy sources those means of transport run on and ways of ensuring their diversity as well as the need to take care of the infrastructure.
