Bahrain committed to promoting integrity, fighting corruption

Manama, Dec. 13 (BNA): Interior Minister, Lt-General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa attended a ceremony today marking the International Anti-corruption Day. The minister said that Bahrain is dedicated to mark the day every year as part of efforts to promote integrity and fighting corruption, in line with the principles of the constitution and the reform project of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa. He highlighted that fighting corruption and protecting public funds require joint efforts among all segments in society since it is the responsibility of state officials, citizens and residents. The minister expressed appreciation of the hard work of the General Directorate of Anti-corruption and Economic and Electronic Security as a law enforcement authority as part of cooperation and partnership between the legislative, judiciary and executive authorities, NGOs and media organisations, to implement the National Anti-corruption Strategy that sets general principles to fight corruption. General Director of Anti-corruption and Economic and Electronic Security, Colonel Bassam Al Miraj said the wise directives of the minister boosted the success of the department’s missions. He said that the General Directorate has been implementing an active policy to detect sources of corruption and enhance coordination with local, regional and international organisations, in accordance to the National Anti-corruption Strategy that was implemented by the minister in December 2013. The entries of university students who won best awareness film on integrity and anti-corruption were screened. The competition was held to promote community partnership and integration between state organisations. The minister honoured the winners and the sponsors of the Anti-corruption campaign. The event was attended by Education Minister, General Attorney, Deputy Interior Minister, Minister of Youth and Sports Affairs, Minister of Information Affairs, Chairman of Shura Council, Deputy Chairman of the Council of Representative, Interior Ministry Undersecretary of Nationality, Passport and Residence Affairs, Governor of Bahrain Central Bank, Chief of Public Security, Undersecretary of Interior Ministry and senior officials.
