Bahrain congratulated by WHO regional director

Manama, June 23 (BNA): The World Health Organization (WHO) Regional Director for Eastern Mediterranean Region, Dr. Ahmed Salem Al Munthari, congratulated Bahrain on being declared measles and rubella-free by the regional Commission for Measles and Rubella Elimination. In a letter to Health Minister Faeqa Saeed Al Saleh, Dr. Al Munthari expressed special thanks and appreciation to the Kingdom’s extensive immunization programme officials. He praised the national immunization programme’s achievements through vaccination and monitoring of the diseases in cooperation with the Public Health Department at the Ministry of Health. Bahrain maintained 95% immunization against measles, rubella over two decades as well as highest monitoring and laboratory indices across the governorates thanks to the patronage of His Majesty the King, decision-makers, the Ministry of Health, Immunization Group, Public Health Laboratory & Verification Committee, in line with the Public Health law, the Child Protection Law and the vision of the Supreme Council for Health regarding the provision of comprehensive healthcare to achieve the sustainable development goals. (SDGs). It is worth mentioning that the WHO regional commission declared Bahrain free of measles and rubella during its meeting in Jordan last May.
