Bahrain hosts key conference on Islamic monuments

Manama, Apr. 11 (BNA): On behalf of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Premier, President of Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities (BACA) Shaikha Mai bint Mohammed Al Khalifa opened today at Bahrain National Theatre the "Islamic Monuments from Global Perspective" conference. Renowned international figures in history and archaeology participated in the event to spotlight their researches in Islamic monuments. The conference, which is attended by diplomatic and media personalities, academics, researchers and archaeologists, also marks the opening of Al-Khamis Mosque Visitors Centre, being a museum documenting a landmark Islamic monument in the Arabian Gulf. Shaikha Mai extended thanked HRH the Crown Prince for patronizing the conference, lauding his direct care for Bahrain's cultural and historical heritage. She voiced happiness about Bahrain's hosting the international event which sheds light the Islamic heritage. She also stressed the importance of casting light on the Islamic heritage amid the exceptional challenges and circumstances undergone by the region. On the first day of the conference, work papers were presented on the Islamic monuments in Bahrain, the GCC countries, Yemen, Iraq, Syria and Jordan. On the second day of the conference tomorrow, there will be research papers on the Islamic monuments in Egypt, Palestine, a number of Islamic countries, central Asia, north Africa, south Asia and southeast Asia. However, on the last day (April 13), the lecturers will present their work papers on Islamic monuments in other parts of the world like Anatolia, The Iberian Peninsula (Spain and Portugal), Ethiopia, the Horn of Africa, Sudan, the East African coast and west Africa.
