Bahrain, Japan discuss establishment of air conditioning research centre

Tokyo, Mar. 30 (BNA): Chief Executive Officer of the Supreme Council for Environment (SCE), Dr. Mohammed Mubarak bin Dainah, held a meeting here with a delegation from Japan’s Economy, Trade and Industry Ministry to discuss the future technology of the air conditioning sector. Dr. Bin Dainah reviewed the current situation of the air conditioning sector in the kingdom and its developments in the coming decade because of Bahrain’s keenness to honouring its international commitments regarding the protection of the Ozone Layer, through the implementation of the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer. The Protocol stipulates that Hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFCs) will be completely phased out by 20130. The SCE’s Chief Executive highlighted the kingdom’s interest in exchanging information and expertise with Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, given its long history and experience in the air conditioning technology that does not deplete the Ozone Layer. Dr. Bin Dainah proposed the establishment of a centre for studies related to the air conditioning sector in the kingdom. The centre, which was welcomed by the Japanese side, would be the first of its kind in the region, and would provide an opportunity for air conditioners’ manufacturers to reach an alternative technology that would serve hot countries. The two sides agreed a mechanism to implement the proposal in a way that would benefit Bahrain’s economy.
