Bahrain marks Human Rights Day

Manama, Dec. 11 (BNA): The National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR) hosted a reception ceremony marking the Human Rights Day which is celebrated on December 10 in commemoration of the adoption of the United Nations General Assembly of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) in 1948.
The document represents the first global expression underlining the need to ensure respect and protection of human rights and freedoms and an inspiration in drafting laws and constitutions.
Member of the Board of Commissioners Farid Ghazi expressed happiness about joining the world in celebrating the occasion out of belief that human being is the pivot of development. He also stressed Bahrain's commitment to UDHR, voicing the kingdom's pledge to continue working on fostering human rights.
NIHR reiterated thanks to His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa for issuing the decree-law amending some provisions of the establishment law of the institution to converge with Paris principles. He described the law as a milestone underscoring the great importance given by Bahrain to promoting human rights in partnership with relevant local and international parties.
