Bahrain marks World Antibiotic Awareness Week

Manama, Nov.22(BNA): The national strategy for combating antibiotic-resistant mircrobes has been launched today. Supreme Council for Health (SCH) President Lieutenant-General Dr. Shaikh Mohammed bin Abdulla Al-Khalifa patronised the event. Health Minister Faeqa bint Said Al-Saleh, National Health Regulatoy Authority(NHRA) Chief Executive Officer Dr. Mariam Al-Jalahma, undersecretaries and senior officials attended. The ceremony, which was held at Awal Ballroom in the Gulf Hotel, marked the the World Antibiotic Awareness Week a global event aimed at raising awareness of antibiotic resistance among members of the public, professionals and political decision makers across the globe. Lt.Gen. Dr. Shaikh Mohammed bin Abdulla Al-Khalifa commended the efforts of the team which contributed to launching the strategy, which aims to reduce the use antibiotics. Health Minister Faeqa bint Said Al-Saleh addressed the ceremony, describing the issue of antibiotic resistance as a bif challenge for Bahrain and other countries in the world. She commended the Salmaniya Medical Complex (SMC) medical team which conducted the required assessment and came out with recommendations. She expressed thanks to the Supreme Council for Health (SCH) President Lieutenant-General Dr. Shaikh Mohammed bin Abdulla Al-Khalifafor his constant support. She commended the efforts of antibiotics use committee, chaired by Dr. Jameela Salman for its crucial role in achieving the desired goals. SMC Communicable Diseases Department chief Consultant Dr. Jameela Salman also addressed the ceremony, outlining national strategy for combating antibiotic-resistant mircrobes.
