Bahrain marks World Environment Day

Manama, Jun.8 (BNA): The Kingdom of Bahrain joined the other nations in celebrating the World Environment Day which falls annually on the 5th of June. A ceremony was held this evening at studio 224 at Dohat Arad Park, in Muharraq to mark the the 2019 edition, which being eld this year under the theme “Air Pollution”. The Supreme Council for the Environment (SCE) organized the event in cooperation with Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities (BACA) and the The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) Office. The ceremony was attended by SCE Chief Executive Officer Dr. Mohammed Mubarak bin Daina, BACA director general for culture and arts Shaikha Hala bint Mohammed Al-Khalifa and UNEP Office Representative and Regional Director for West Asia Sami Dimassi. A workshop stressing the importance of protecting the environment and preserving the quality of the air was held on the sidelines of the ceremony and was attended by 45 participants who registered via the BACA website. SCE Chief Executive Officer Dr. Mohammed Mubarak bin Daina hailed the efforts exerted by Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities (BACA) and the The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) Office to promote environment awareness. He stressed the impoortance of the 2019 theme which aims to explore renewable energy and green technologies, and improve air quality in cities and regions across the world. BACA director general for culture and arts Shaikha Hala bint Mohammed Al-Khalifa underlined the crucial roled which can be played by culture in promoting environmental issues. UNEP Office Representative and Regional Director for West Asia Sami Dimassi also addressed the event, stressed the importance of the 2019 theme which calls on governments, industries and individuals to to explore renewable energies, green technologies and conserve the quality of the air all over the world.
