Bahrain participates in Colombo ministerial meeting

Colombo, Jan. 24 (BNA): Labour and Social Development Minister Jameel bin Mohammed Humaidan headed the Kingdom of Bahrain's delegation to the consultative ministerial meeting between Asia's labour-exporting and recipient countries. Taking place in Colombo city, Sri Lanka on January 23-24 as part of follow up of Abu Dhabi Dialogue Document, the ministerial meeting brought together labour ministers from the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and Arab countries, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Nepal, Thailand, the Philippines, Vietnam and hosts Sri Lanka in addition to participation of the International Labour Organisation (ILO) as well as specialised regional and international organisations. The meeting discussed ways to boost the cooperation between the labour-exporting and the GCC countries, reviewed best practices, regulations capable of facilitating and regulating the mobility, employment of Asian workers to meet the needs of the labour market in the GCC countries and also boosting the procedures that ensure the protection of expatriate workers and their employers in accordance with applicable laws and legislations besides their contribution in the economic development and cooperation of their respective countries .
