Bahrain participates in Geneva human rights review session

Geneva, May 12 (BNA): The Permanent Mission of the Kingdom of Bahrain to the United Nations Office at Geneva has participated in the 33rd session of the Working Group on the Universal Periodic Review of Human Rights which included a review of a number of national reports of a group of states, including Norway, Bhutan, Brunei Darussalam, Albania and Costa Rica. Since Bahrain is a member of the Human Rights Council, the Permanent Delegation of the Kingdom Bahrain, alongside two other country representatives served as rapporteurs ("troika") for the review of Bhutan, including Argentina and Austria. The Kingdom submitted a final report to the Troika, including the recommendations resulting from this review along with a number of key comments and observations drawn by the Troika in light of the positions of the countries present at the discussion of reviewing Bhutan. In the course of these reviews, Bahrain has submitted national statements highlighting the most important aspects of progress in the protection and promotion of human rights, as well as making a number of recommendations to contribute to the efforts of countries being reviewed to promote further initiatives and achievements in promoting and strengthening human rights
