Bahrain participates in NAM ministerial meeting

Caracas, July 22 (BNA): Bahrain has participated in the Non-Aligned Movement annual meeting at the Ministerial Level in Caracas, Venezuela, on July 18-21.
The Kingdom's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Jamal Faris Al-Ruwaie, headed the Kingdom's delegation.
During the meeting, Al-Ruwaie delivered a speech in which he emphasized the support of the Kingdom of Bahrain for the objectives and principles of the Non-Aligned Movement, established in Bandung conference in the Republic of Indonesia in 1955, which aim to maintain world peace and security,
He also affirmed the support of the Kingdom for the causes addressed by the Movement, foremost of which is the Palestinian cause, and the right of the Palestinian people to obtain their legitimate and inalienable rights, including the right to self-determination and the establishment of their independent State on the borders of 4 June 1967, on the basis of the two-state solution in accordance to international law and in line with the relevant resolutions of international legitimacy and the Arab peace initiative.
He pointed out that since Bahrain joined the Non-Alignment Movement in 1972, the Kingdom has continued to enhance its role in various fields especially in the field of sustainable development, dialogue of cultures and civilizations, coexistence and the creation of an environment for human relations under the reform approach of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa.
The ambassador noted the principles of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), based on the adherence to the principles of good neighborliness, non-interference in the internal affairs of States, refraining from the use of threat and destabilizing policies. He called for the countries concerned to enhance cooperation and coordination in order to deter all those who seek to undermine the stability of this strategic region and combat terrorism and its financing.
The ambassador addressed the efforts of the Kingdom of Bahrain in combating terrorism and drying up its financial sources by organizing and hosting many conferences and meetings, stressing the need for regional and international efforts to combat violence, terrorism and extremism in all forms and to take all necessary measures to deter its supporters and financiers.
He reiterated the position of Bahrain that supports the legitimate rights of Morocco over its southern territories, according to the initiative of self-government. He also noted the Kingdom’s support to the Moroccan efforts to find a political solution to the Sahara issue within the framework of the sovereignty and unity of Morocco over its national territory and its developmental initiatives in the region.
He expressed Bahrain’s keenness to enhance the Movements’ role through working together with other member states to activate the role of the Movement for the benefit of all. He also wished the friendly Azerbaijan Republic success in leading the work of the Movement during the next summit in October this year in Baku City.
