Bahrain participates in Third Global Climate and SDG Synergy Conference

Manama, Aug. 2 (BNA): Oil and Environment Minister, and Special Envoy for Climate Affairs, Dr. Mohammed bin Mubarak bin Daina, has participated in the Third Global Conference on Strengthening Synergies between the Paris Agreement and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development (Third Global Climate and SDG Synergy Conference), Co-convened by the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN DESA) and the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) Secretariat, and hosted by the Ministry of the Environment of Japan, the Third Global Climate and SDG Synergy Conference was held virtually under the chairmanship of the Japanese Environment Minister, Tsuyoshi Yamaguchi. Addressing the conference, Dr. Bin Daina stressed that under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, and thanks to the support of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, Bahrain has dedicated its national strategies to embodying the principle of achieving sustainable development goals, and setting the sustainability criterion among its priorities in the Bahrain Economic Vision 2030, which aims to promote sustainable development. He underlined the importance of the kingdom’s announcement to reach Net Zero by 2060 in this regard, praising the role played by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and Japan in mobilising international efforts in support of facing the effects of climate change. The minister highlighted the keenness of HM the King’s Personal Representative and Supreme Council for Environment (SCE) President, His Highness Shaikh Abdulla bin Hamad Al Khalifa, to devote national efforts to achieving sustainable development goals through the implementation of many projects, programmes, activities and environmental studies. In this context, he indicated that the Kingdom has prepared the necessary studies to assess the impact of the rise in sea level on the coastal areas, and developed a long-term plan commensurate with the size of the challenges and the nature of the priority areas to be protected, and contribute to the protection of desalination and energy plants to maintain energy and water security in Bahrain. It is to be noted that the Third Global Climate and SDG Synergy Conference brings together 30 leading personalities, over 2,000 ministers and high-level officials, as well as 100 speakers from various participating countries.
