Bahrain reiterates unwavering support to Palestinian people

New York, Nov. 30 (BNA): The Kingdom of Bahrain has affirmed that the ongoing Palestinian issue for 70 years remains unresolved despite many of the resolutions adopted by the Security Council and the General Assembly, and that peace in the Middle East is fundamentally linked to the establishment of an independent state of Palestine and the return of Palestinian refugees to their homeland. This came during a statement delivered by the Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Bahrain to the United Nations, Ambassador Jamal Fares Al-Ruwaie, to the General Assembly of the United Nations on Thursday, 29 November 2018, on the occasion of the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People and the General Assembly debate on the “Question of Palestine”. In his address to the Assembly, the Permanent Representative quoted the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Shaikh Khalid bin Ahmed bin Muhammed Al Khalifa, in his letter to the Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People, on the occasion of the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People. The Minister reiterated in his letter the support of the Kingdom of Bahrain, under His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, for the legitimate and inalienable rights of the Palestinian people, foremost of which is the right to establish an independent state with East-Quds as its capital on the borders of June 4, 1967, according to the two-state solution, resolutions of International legitimacy and the Arab Peace Initiative. He also reiterated our responsibility as an international community towards the people of Palestine, their just cause, and the immediacy to find a solution for it, especially after the unprecedented suffering they have been through, which further necessitates standing with them in their long-running crisis, whose continuation causes a serious threat to not only peace and stability in the Middle East, but also internationally. The deterioration of the situation in the occupied Palestinian territories and the continued unacceptable Israeli policy of the displacement of Palestinians, the use of excessive and unjustified force, the seizure of land and the establishment of illegal settlements and other dangerous practices are flagrant violations of the United Nations Charter, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and the Geneva Conventions, all of which obliges the international community to pressure Israel to immediately stop those practices, and implement the resolutions of international legitimacy. In concluding his statement, Ambassador Al Ruwaie stressed that any settlement of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict requires comprehensive political solutions, such as those provided by the Arab Peace Initiative, calling for the concerted efforts of the international community to restore the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people and the return of the Palestinian refugees to their homeland, as well as achieving a just and comprehensive peace in accordance with the relevant United Nations resolutions.
