Bahraini artist and poet mourned

Manama, July 28 (BNA): Bahraini prolific artist, poet and Assistant Professor at the University of Bahrain Samia Engineer passed away yesterday (Friday). Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities (BACA) President Shaikha Mai bint Mohammed Al-Khalifa mourned the deceased, hailed as being one of the outstanding pioneers of fine arts and literature in Bahrain. “A few weeks ago, we compiled a booklet for Morocco’ Aseela Cultural Festival and cited Bahraini artists, including Samia, not knowing that we would bid her farewell a few days later”, she said. In a vivid and touching tribute BACA chief said that Bahrain had lost, with her death, an honourable role model and a prolific artist who contributed to enriching Bahrain’s cultural life. Dr. Samia is holder of a PhD degree in art education and painting from The Pennsylvania State University in the USA in 1992. She worked as Assistant Professor of Art Education and Fine Arts at the University of Bahrain since 1982.
