Bahraini launches initiative to host anti-drug conference

Vienna, Oct. 23 (BNA): Southern Governor Shaikh Abdullah bin Rashid Al Khalifa has discussed with the Executive Director of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), Yury Fedotov, activating the memorandum of understanding signed between the Interior Minister and the UN's Yuri Fedotov on strengthening cooperation between the UN and the National Anti-drug Committee. The meeting was held in Vienna on the sidelines of the Governor's participation in the Silk Road Organisation conference being held there. UNODC Executive Director welcomed the initiative of the Southern Governor on holding a conference on counterterrorism as a result of drug-related activities to be organised by the Permanent Mission of the GCC Office. He said the conference will be a good opportunity to highlight the efforts of Bahrain and GCC countries in fighting drugs and crime. The meeting was also attended by Head of GCC Permanent Mission Office to UN in Vienna Ambassador Dr. Mohammed Al Gheilani.
