Bahrain's commitment to principles of international work stressed

Manama, Oct. 23 (BNA): His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa affirmed that the United Nations has always been and will remain an embodiment of the noble goals of the international community to foster the principles of joint coordination and understanding as well as respect of the international law in staving off threats to global peace and stability. In an address to the world marking the United Nations Day, which is celebrated on October 24, HRH the Premier stressed the current global political, economic and security instability with the surging threat of terrorism and extremist groups. This, he said, requires developing the system of collective work to further cement the foundations of a secure and stable international system for present and future generations. HRH the Prime Minister asserted that upgrading the mechanisms of the UN and increasing their effectiveness to cope with the fast-paced developments of the international system has become the need of the hour to boost security and stability for mankind and promote growth and prosperity. "The UN has the responsibility of preserving the goals for which it was set up, including mainly the principles of equality in countries' sovereignty and immunity so as to ensure stability of international relations," he said, calling on the international community to take more advanced steps to eliminate causes of tensions, alleviate people's suffering in hot spots and orient capabilities and resources towards growth. HRH the Prime Minister warned of the repercussions of a decline in the UN's role to tackle crises, upheavals and wars in many places. He affirmed that the organisation's failure to handle such problems is likely to broaden the scope of conflicts, jeopardize people's lives and subject them to the danger of immigration and dislocation. HRH the Premier urged the international community to map out plans to bolster security and stability worldwide instead of being distracted by differences which will only aggravate threats to global peace and security. He also underscored keenness of Bahrain, under the leadership of HM the King, to commit to the principles of joint international work which is based on mutual respect and more rapprochement between countries to achieve the UN's noble humanitarian goals. HRH the Prime Minister underlined Bahrain's support to all international efforts to boost peace and welfare as well as achieve justice and sustainable development. He emphasized the kingdom's keenness to honour its international obligations out of belief in the importance of collective work as the only way for the advancement of humanity. He also expressed satisfaction at the sound relations between Bahrain and all the UN organisations, pointing out that celebrating the United Nations Day this year has a special importance as it sheds light on the sustainable development goals 2030 which were endorsed by the General Assembly in 2015. "Development has to be the core goal of the international community in the upcoming years as there is no peace without development and no development for any society without security and stability," he stressed, calling on the international community to take advantage of the United Nations Day to reiterate commitment to the UN noble goals of promoting global peace and stability. HRH the Premier commended the efforts of the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon in achieving set up goals and coordinating international efforts to boost global welfare.
