Bahrain's dealing with pandemic an international example in confronting crises – Speaker

Tashkent, Sept. 8 (BNA): Speaker Fawzia bint Abdullah Zainal said that Bahrain achieved a remarkable experience in confronting the repercussions of the Covid-19 pandemic in implementation of the directives of HM King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa. Bahrain's success is also attributed to wise work and to the efforts of Team Bahrain, led by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, she said. Zainal was addressing the first session of the 14th Summit of Women Speakers of Parliament (14SWSP) hosted by Uzbekistan. The theme of the Summit, "Parliamentary leadership: Anticipating risks to better deliver sustainability and prosperity", aims to focus on priority areas of action for the parliamentary leadership to better deliver sustainability and prosperity while building on lessons learned from the COVID-19 pandemic and related crises and anticipating future risks. Zainal reviewed Bahrain's progress in addressing the pandemic and efforts to achieve recovery. She stressed that the Kingdom has taken proactive steps since the outbreak pandemic, to protect the health and safety of citizens and residents, based on a solid base of close cooperation between the legislative and executive branches within a framework that enhanced human rights and public freedoms. She highlighted the provision of free and prompt treatment and vaccines to citizens and residents alike, and the implementation of procedures that ensured the smooth continuation of life in all aspects of life. Zainal referred to the measures taken to deal with the various burdens caused by the pandemic and the legislation adopted to ensure stability for all sectors, including the economy and commerce, and the resort to on-line work to ensure smooth continuity. The Speaker stressed that the current reality requires full attention to other challenges – often more ominous-, including climate change, food and water scarcity, terrorism, extremism and conflicts. The role of parliaments in dealing with such challenges is extremely crucial, especially that the future of humanity is indivisible and requires synergy and growing cooperation, in pursuit of a better future for all, she said.
