Bahrain's efforts to boost human rights stressed

Manama, Nov. 29 (BNA): Deputy President of the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR) Abdullah Al Derazi received today Rule of Law and Human Rights and Justice Specialist at the United Nation's Regional Bureau for Arab Countries Marta Vallejo Mestres. The meeting was attended by Head of the Complaints, Monitoring and Follow-up Committee Maria Khouri, Acting Secretary General Chancellor Yasser Shahine and Information Technology and Telecommunications Director Fahad Al Ma'alla. The Deputy President of NIHR welcomed the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) representative, praising the programme's efforts in backing national institutions and stressing that the meeting comes within the context of international cooperation between NIHR and UNDP. He provided a detailed account on the work of the National Institution for Human Rights and its role in boosting human rights and protecting them. He pointed out Bahrain's steady progress in this respect thanks to the reform project of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa.
