Bahrain's Electricity Minister attends IRENA General Assembly

Manama, Jan. 11 (BNA): Electricity and Water Affairs Minister Dr. Abdulhussain Mirza took part in the opening of the ninth session of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) General Assembly, in Abu Dhabi. The meeting, which comes within the activities of the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week, was attended by ministers and decision-makers in the field of renewable energy along with more than 2,000 participants from more than 175 member states from across the world. Bahrain is its permanent member since its inception in 2009. In his comments, Dr. Mirza spoke of Bahrain's strategy on energy sustainability and about the availability of solar and wind energy. He said the Bahrain government is seized of the importance of renewable energy and is keen to keep up with the latest available technology in the transition to an era of clean energy. The minister spoke of the Council of Ministers’ resolutions and targets for renewable energy and energy efficiency and on unifying efforts to achieve set goals. He said the government is also keen to develop concrete programmes to accelerate the expansion of renewable energy to ensure a safe and sustainable future. Dr. Mirza also participated in other ministerial meetings along with ministers and officials from around the world and spoke of Bahrain’s vision, plans and experiences in renewable and clean energy.
