Bahrain's promotion for human rights appreciated

Manama, Nov.2 (BNA): Members of the European Parliament delegation currently visiting the country have praised Bahrain's efforts in promoting human rights, the independence of the judicial system, democratic practices, as well as the development of legislation. They also lauded its initiatives to maintain the homeland and regional stability. European MP David Campbell Bannerman, in a statement to Bahrain News Agency, said that the meetings held with senior Bahraini officials have revealed that the Kingdom of Bahrain is progressing in the right direction towards democracy. Head of the European delegation, Amjad Bashir, welcomed Bahrain's support for human and labour rights in conformity with the international conventions. Bashir noted Bahrain's close relations and military cooperation with the United Kingdom, its highly trained armed forces and participations in the war in Afghanistan and the Gulf war. He said Bahrain is a small developing country in the course of developing and protecting its national identity. He added that some human rights organisations have issued reports against Bahrain, but they do not realize the enormousness challenges faced by Bahrain, including sectarian and ethnic diversity. He said it is the state's responsibility to protect its people and property. Police in Bahrain is trained to maintain the law, the respect for human rights and the non-use of force. He expressed delight in visiting the Labour Market Regulatory Authority and the Special Investigation Unit and learning about its responsibilities, among of them investigating police violations. He concluded by saying Bahrain is a constitutional monarchy on the track of pursuing democracy.
