Bahrain's protection of child rights praised

Manama, Oct. 11 (BNA): The National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR) today called to mustering the efforts of national governments and civil society organisations to boost the protection of girls, address the challenges facing them around the world, ensure their basic human rights including health, education, afford them protection against violence and discrimination, and consolidate the principles of equal opportunity and equality before the law.
Gender equality is not only a basic human right but also is one of the essential pillars for global peace, prosperity and sustainability, the NIHR said. This statement came as the NIHR today marked the International Day of the Girl Child on October 11.
The NIHR commended Bahrain’s efforts in boosting the protection of the rights of children in general and girls in particular. The UN Children Rights Convention was endorsed by the UN in November 1989 and Bahrain joined it upon the issuance of Law 16/1991. Bahrain has continued its commitment to working in compliance with the Principles of Paris to monitor the follow up its compliance with international conventions and agreements ratified by the Kingdom and related to boosting the protection of children and girls rights.
