Bahrain's role in promoting international counter-terrorism efforts commended

Manama, Apr. 17 (BNA): The US Assistant Secretary of Treasury for Terrorist Financing, Marshall Scott Billingslea, in a press conference held on the sidelines of the 11th Counter ISIS Finance Group meeting held in Manama, affirmed the defeat of the Daesh groups geographically, noting that action continues to counter any activity of the same groups stationed in areas in Syria and Iraq and to fail their financing efforts. Billingslea thanked Bahrain for hosting the meeting, saying the US continues working together with its allies to combat the terrorist Daesh groups and their sources of financing. Antonella Uneddu, Coordinator for Multilateral Financial Cooperation of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, CIFG co-Lead, pointed out the group countries' commitment to combat Daesh and dry up its sources of financing. She said the meeting tackled means of monitoring Daesh groups' attempts to transfer their funds around the globe, appreciating the Kingdom of Bahrain for hosting the meeting. Foreign Affairs Adviser for Political and Economic Affairs, Nasser Al Balushi, stressed that Bahrain has active control systems capable of preventing suspicious financing operations. The participants praised Bahrain’s role in boosting the counter-terrorism efforts of the international coalition, saying hosting the meeting in Bahrain reflects its commitment to be an active member of the group and accentuates its ongoing efforts to fight terrorism and dry its financing sources.
