Baku to host first meeting of GUAM national coordinators

Tbilisi, February 24, AZERTAC The first meeting of GUAM national coordinators will be held in Baku on March 15-16, the organization`s Secretary General Altay Efendiyev has told AZERTAC. “The meeting to be attended by foreign ministers and representatives of GUAM member and partner countries will focus on the ways of increasing the effectiveness of the organization, developing cooperation in transportation, energy, trade and cultural spheres, as well as the priority projects for Azerbaijan.” Efendiyev said that Baku will also host an event marking the 10th anniversary of GUAM in May. The Secretary General described the influence of GUAM as increasing. “The number of GUAM partners is growing. Japan, Poland, Visegrad Group (alliance of four Central European states – Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia) and other countries and organizations are interested in GUAM. We believe that these interest will give impetus to further development of GUAM as a larger and more influential organization," Efendiyev said. The Secretary General hailed the projects carried out by the organization in the fields of transportation, logistics, culture and tourism, saying these projects will also contribute to the improvement of GUAM`s prestige.
