Bali Govt Receives WHO Award For Fight Against Rabies

Jakarta, April 12 (Antara) - Bali Administrative Government receives an award from the United Nations` World Health Organization (WHO) and the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) for its success in significantly decreasing the number of rabies cases in man and animal. "Bali has been able to decrease rabies cases significantly which is something that never happens in the world before," Bali Chief of Animal Husbandry and Animal Health Office I Putu Sumantra said here on Friday. He explained from the period of July 2012 until April 2013 no case of rabies on human ever recorded while the number of rabies cases before July 2012 was recorded at 145. "Every element in the province has been involved in the fight against rabies," he added. There are a total of 350,000 dogs in Bali. The local government regularly conducts vaccination towards dogs to prevent rabies.
